Drip Drip....

Dayton discovered splashing in the bathtub this evening.... I showed him how you can make the water splash a few days ago but it did not click until tonight. It started with a single splash with both his hands...and a giggle....then both his arms above his head and throwing them down into the water...giggle giggle....and again...and again....and now I'm laughing....giggle giggle....until I am SOAKED and there is less than 1/2 the water left in the tub.

It was worth every drop.

Getting Together with 'The Girls'

As you all may remember, my good friends Denise and Jeremy had identical twin girls, Brianna and Sophia, 6 weeks before Dayton's arrival. One of our first blog entries highlighted Dayton's first introduction to 'the girls' when he was 4 days old. Now, Brianna and Sophia are 8 months old and standing up on their own. It was wonderful to have get together today with Keely, Denise, Jeremy, Brianna, Sophia, Dayton and me. The kids had a great time together. We all got a kick out of how they were constantly stealing toys from one another but no one seemed to mind. May things always be this peaceful.

January

It's been a busy month. The 'real world' has settled in and I'm full-time at work, Dayton is immersed in daycare, Mike is off travelling. While it has been chaotic, it has also been wonderful. We had many celebrations this month: Laura and Robert's wedding, Siobhan's christening and my father's 65th birthday. All very special occasions that we were honored to be a part of.

Amongst all the celebrations, we cannot forget the earthquake in Haiti. My best friend from childhood, Sasha Kramer, has lived in Haiti for several years building compost toilets that can in turn be used to fertilize the soil. Since the earthquake, she has done everything she can in Port Au Prince to help the people there. You can follow her blog and donate to her organization at: http://www.oursoil.org/ This is money that will go directly to the people that need it and avoid the distribution issues that larger organizations are challenged with. One of her recent blogs was featured on Vanity Fair's website (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2010/01/port-au-prince-dispatch-the-light-that-will-heal-haiti.html) and she was also interviewed on Democracy Now.

Dayton is truly amazing. He is full of smiles and getting more active every minute. If he is on your lap you have to hold him tight or he'll lunge for the remote or other electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras, etc. He squirms around on his belly and over the past week has begun to get up on all fours and rock back and forth. Crawling here we come! Let the baby gates be installed! He has graduated from rice cereal that he began eating in mid-December and has started on veggies - - - green beans first and now carrots. He is enjoying these new tastes. While feeding him with the baby spoon, I noticed that he was biting down on the spoon....and with this I discovered that his two bottom front teeth are starting to push through his gums. Not fully emerged yet but any minute now.

While up in New Jersey for my Dad's 65th, he showed that he continues to love meeting new people. He was passed from relative, to family friend, to relative - - - and never complained. He had a great time and as a result, we all did.

Here are some pictures of the past few weeks.

Dayton is Six Months Old!

Could it really be? Our little Dayton is half a year old?! It's true. This is just the most wonderful age. He is so much fun but is not yet mobile enough to be getting himself into trouble. The box of safety equipment is out to block electrical outlets, etc. With a blink of an eye, he's now six months old so we're sure with another blink he's going to be tearing around the house with us trailing behind.

We could not be more lucky to have such a great baby. 'Observant', 'happy', 'good' and ' cute' are the adjectives that we hear describe Dayton most often. They are all true. He loves meeting new people and takes everything in around him. We love our little guy, 'goober', 'gooberhead', 'Little D', 'D-boy', 'Day-Day', 'Day', 'Mr. D.', 'D-D', and as his Great Grandfather Hershey calls him, 'Double D'. Although, I'm not supporting that nick-name as it sounds more like a bra-size rather than a nick-name.

Here they are, Dayton's six month pictures with Mr. Lamb as well as a really cute video of Dayton sitting on his Daddy's chest smushing Daddy's face. One of Dayton's favorite pastimes is smushing faces and eating noses.

Ringing in the New Year - 2010!

None of us made it to midnight to ring in the new decade, 2010. All of us have been sick since Dayton started daycare but specifically, I was down for the count with a bad cold since Christmas. We enjoyed staying in together. Dayton had the opportunity to have a New Years party with his four-legged brother Piper and sisters Mikki and Tiger. Dayton LOVES his animals and they love him back. It's non-stop entertainment for him in the house with the animals walking around and so many tails to admire.

Christmas in Jacksonville

We had a great time visiting the Dix family in Jacksonville, Florida for Christmas. It was very special to have so much of the family together for the holidays. We missed you Dixie, Dolores and Geoff! Thanks to Amy, Chris, Carter and Brady for taking the trip up from the Orlando area so that Dayton could meet his cousins for the first time. As Carter was leaving he told everyone that his favorite part of the day was when Dayton was playing with him (see picture of Dayton trying to grab Carter's face). How cute!

Dayton really enjoyed spending time with Nan, Uncle Jim, Aunt Edith, cousins Kaitlyn, Carissa, Casey and Leslie. He even got to meet his 4-legged cousins Mocha and Izzy. We wish we could see you all more often! Smiles were had by all as you can see from the pictures below.
