Dayton is Feeling Much Better

Dayton is back at daycare this morning after our best nights sleep since last week. Ahhhh, a sigh of relief. He has an antibiotic-caused diaper rash and he still has GI issues, but he's definitely over the worst of it. Another sigh of relief....

He was fever free all day yesterday and the pictures below show that we have our happy Dayton back. He is a bit hesitant to lay on his back now because he's learned over the past few days that bad things happen in that position...nose sucked, mouth opened to squirt in meds, IVs inserted, chest x-rays taken, catheter inserted. Poor guy....

His favorite things to play with are his four-legged siblings, Mikki, Piper and Tiger. Now that he is crawling, he just wants to be next to them. After many attempts, he has finally learned that he has to lift his leg to crawl onto the dog beds and mission accomplished. Luckily, the dogs love Dayton as much as he loves them and they are very tolerant of his advances. Yesterday, Dayton was mesmerized by the tags on Mikki's collar.

We used the webcam for the first time last night to get my Dad's opinion on the diaper rash (fungal or not). Dayton's butt got it's first show...let's hope it does not end up on u-tube.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us and offered to help over the past week. Aimee, thank you ENDLESSLY for coming over Wednesday afternoon to play with Dayton while I got some work done. Mom and Dad, thank you for your support after many calls to you and requests for input on what to do next as Dayton's illness progressed. Thank you to those I work with for being so understanding of my absence. We are a very lucky family.

Sigh of relief.

Another Visit to the ER

We got our first call from the daycare on Friday afternoon requesting that we come and pick Dayton up. He had a 102.6 fever. Of course, we called Bepop (the Grandpa Pediatrician) to get his advice. We also called our local pediatrician's office and they suggested we just treat with motrin/tylenol and see how he is doing in the morning. All was pretty standard with fevers no higher than 103 or so until Sunday around 1 AM where it spiked to 106.8. This was taken with a temporal thermometer so it may not have been exact but regardless, it was really high. I woke Mike and we gave Dayton some more motrin. I told Mike he did not even want to know what the thermometer had read. It was back down to 102 and change an hour or so later. The next morning, we called Bebop to report the night's events and he stressed Dayton needed to be seen today. Of course, it was a Sunday so after a call to our local pediatrician, off we went to Texas Children's hospital. Luckily, they got us right in. Chest x-rays, catheter for pee pee test, IV for blood and ultimately IV antibiotics and they sent us home about 6 hours later. Still unsure of what exactly was causing his high fever. It was 103.4 when we left the hospital. Luckily, the IV antibiotics did their trick for 24 hours. When they wore off yesterday afternoon, his fever was back. Off to the doctor... Another shot of antibiotics and now he's on amoxicillan. He had a 102 fever this AM (Tuesday). Fingers crossed and he'll now be now be fever free and on the mend. Mike has also been sick but is feeling a bit better today. I'm tired. Our poor little boy....

All but the first picture below were all taken at the hospital. The doctors and nurses at Texas Childrens were wonderful. Check out the IV in Dayton's hand. The first picture was taken yesterday morning after the trauma of the day before. Little Dayton is just not feeling well. We can't wait to have our healthy and happy boy back ASAP!

He's Crawling!

It's official...Dayton is crawling. When I picked him up from daycare yesterday, he made eye contact with me from across the room and made his way over to greet me. The owner of the daycare, Linda, also found me to tell me that he is definitely crawling. This morning when Mike dropped Dayton off at daycare, he crawled over to a friend in the exersaucer. The teachers say Dayton is 'avanzada'.

We're so proud...and scared. Now he can get himself into trouble!

Dayton and Daddy Reunion

Mike has been out of the country on business for two and a half weeks and returned Sunday morning. Dayton has become more active, has two bottom teeth and more hair since Mike saw him last. Within about 10 minutes, Dayton was reacquainted with his Dad and full of smiles and squeals.

Dayton is also learning to feed himself. His favorite food so far is sweet potatoes. He grabs the spoon away and from the adult-food-dispenser (a.k.a. Mom or Dad) and tries to feed himself. It's never a pretty site but it's fun...and kind of cute too!

Dayton Is 7 Months Old

These pictures and video were taken of Dayton at 7 Months 4 Days old which happened to be Super Bowl Sunday!! He's even wearing his 'Dayton's First Super Bowl' bib provided by Stacy, Robert and Ramsey. Football provided by Aunt Dolores and Uncle Dixie.

He is so active now...not quite crawling but moving all over the place. His daycare is moving him up to the next class because he's starting to roll over the other babies in his current class. He has reached a new level of interaction, mobility and happiness.

It just keeps getting better for us as Dayton's Mom and Dad.

A Special Day

Today is Mike and my 2nd Anniversary as well as Dayton's 7 month birthday. A special day.

With Mike out of town, life has gotten only more hectic but here are some pictures for you to enjoy!

They include a few that Mike took from Saudi Arabia while Skyping using webcams. He was even able to capture Dayton's two new bottom front teeth!
