Rocky Mountain National Park

Dayton's birthday vacation continued in Rocky Mountain National Park. We stayed at Boulder Brook on Fall River just outside Estes Park (http://www.boulderbrook.com/). Upper 60s/low 70s during the day, 40s at night, snow-capped mountains within view. What else could this Houston-hot-humid-flat landscape based family ask for?!

We borrowed a wonderful hiking baby carrier from Laura and Craig. Dayton LOVED it. I mean...LOVED IT. He squealed and sung while we were carrying him. He was sort of like the maharajah and Mom and Dad took turns being the elephant. You will have to check out the videos (see at the bottom of this blog post).

The kid never lost his smile the entire time. Well, the one time he cried on this vacation was when Mike refused to let him throttle himself into Fall River that was steps from our Boulder Brook room. Sorry, kid.

We saw moose, elk and chipmunks galore. You can see from some of these pics how tame the chipmunks were. One literally scurried under Dayton's belly while he was crawling and on
another occasion, Dayton almost caught one - - see pic below.

What an amazing way to celebrate Dayton's first birthday. It will be a vacation that Mike and I will never forget. As for Dayton, we have over 400 pictures and videos to show him when he is older and asks, "What did we do to celebrate my first birthday?” We'll answer, "Trust me, Day Day, you had a great time."
